From February 2025, Ocean Drive in Barcelona will be located on Las Ramblas. The iconic Hotel España and its Fonda España join our portfolio of hotels, strengthening our presence in Barcelona.

HOTEL ESPAÑA is located next to the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, near La Boquería market, in the very heart of the historic city center. An iconic hotel renowned for its design and architecture, considered a small jewel of Catalan Modernism.

It first opened its doors in 1859 as Fonda España until it was renovated at the beginning of the 20th century by the renowned Catalan modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, with the collaboration of Eusebi Arnau and Ramón Casas.

The hotel offers 82 spacious and well-equipped rooms with a contemporary design concept influenced by Mediterranean aesthetics. It features the Alaire sky bar, a solarium, and a swimming pool, as well as a meeting and events room. Among its most recognized spaces are the Arnau Room and the Sirenas Hall. The former features a splendid alabaster fireplace designed by sculptor Eusebi Arnau, which dominates the room. Today, this room houses one of the dining areas of the Fonda España Restaurant.

Its award-winning restaurant, Fonda España, revives the traditional concept of inns under the guidance of chef Martín Berasategui, who brings a modern and avant-garde touch to local cuisine. Chef Edu Rodas leads the kitchen team.

In 2025, the hotel will undergo another renovation to restore its brilliance in all its spaces. The project is being carried out by Lázaro Rosas-Violán and his team. The design will bring back the essence of Catalan modernist architecture and the vision of acclaimed architect Lluís Domènech.
